When traveling on vacation you often need to know how to say "Thank You" at short notice: on a plane about to land, in a taxi from the airport, or in a shop with your phone on airplane mode. This website is built for that moment. Each language has one page, with the phrase at the top and audio you can play to hear it said. It's designed so you can keep the page open and reference it when needed to check the phrase, or the audio.
How Each Thank You Is Chosen
Many languages have several ways to say thank you. The words chosen on this website are those that you can say in a shop, or to a taxi driver: an ordinary conversation with a local in the country you have traveled to. This way to say "Thank you" is not always the most common way. For example the Japanese phrase used is ありがとうございます (arigatō gozaimasu) rather than the shorter ありがとう (arigatō), because arigatō is used to thank friends rather than a person you don't know, so could sound out of place to a shop assistant.
